Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Raised in Cedar City by Richard and Maralyn Dotson and neighbors. Graduated from Cedar High School, attanded SUU.

How long have you lived in Enoch, and what do you like about it?

15 years in Enoch. I like the good people who live here. My best friends are all around me. True friends, with my best interests in mind.

What office are you running for? And why did you choose to be a candidate for this office?

4 year City Council seat. After last 4 years in this office, I have learned that I can have an influence for good among my associates.

What do you think are the biggest issues in our community right now?

Maintaining the good work done before us. Safeguarding our way of life from larger intrusions.

When you think of Enoch 5 or 10 years from now, what do you want to see?

I see a community that offers security through lawful and helpful neighbors. I see a community that takes care of it's own. I see the good work of our city staff having great benefits. I see these things because I work with them.

What do you see as your top 2 priorities if you are elected?

Same as they were the first time; to keep myself informed of the challenges and able to make decisions based upon needs, laws, and discernment.

What do you think are the biggest Infrastructure needs in Enoch?

I was one of 4 on the committee to interview and select an engineering firm to complete a Capital Facilities Plan. This plan will determine what the infrastructure needs are. We already have some plans in different areas. This plan will more clearly specify where we need the most work.

Please share your thoughts about water usage and rights, and the Water Conservancy District.

I agree with withdrawal from the Conservancy District. Another entity taking dollars from our pockets for projects outside of Enoch is not right. Norm Grimshaw and the Council he sat on changed our water rate structure to reward conservation. I agree with that. Enoch City has a great water system, with the best water in the State. Protecting this is vital.

What do you think about the new Recreation Center that has been planned for Enoch?

I do not think that it is the City's primary responsibility to entertain. First, water, sewer, roads, police protection must be taken care of. If the members of the community want recreation, this comes secondary. I have been supportive of the Rec Center as long as the vital needs are taken care of first. I have assisted in advising the Rec Committee with their plans.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I don't think about being the "best". I am always striving to be better than I was. There are many people better than me. I do feel the responsibility to share my abilities in whatever way I can, as they are given to me for the benefit of others.

What is the best way for people to learn more about you?

Ask the people who really know me best. Gary Wilcken, Mayor Bob Rasmussen, Spencer Jones, Scott Neil, Jeff Lewis, Celeste Lyman, Richard Dotson. The City staff know me very well, but they should not publicly show any bias.

Enoch: Jennifer Hunter: Candidate for City Council

How long have you lived in Enoch, and what do you like about it?

2001. Enoch is a great place to raise a family

What office are you running for? And why did you choose to be a candidate

for this office?

Running for a seat on city council because members of the community asked me to run

What do you think are the biggest issues in our community right now?

The Water Conservancy district is probably one of the biggest issues, the new rec center is another concern.

When you think of Enoch 5 or 10 years from now, what do you want to see?

Controlled growth so that the town stays a great place to raise a family where water rights are protected and plentiful and have plenty of areas for our children to play safely. Strong schools, recycling opportunities, more jobs, safe streets.

What do you see as your top 2 priorities if you are elected?

The implementation of a Secondary water system to preserve our culinary water and I would also like to take a look at all the fees residents are paying and see if they need to be reassessed or eliminated.

What do you think are the biggest Infrastructure needs in Enoch?

1. A look at the framework of our city plan and recently added fees to the residents . . .are the fees and the reasons for the fees in the best interest of our current residents and is the city doing all it can to the benefit of the residents without increased regulations.
2. Stimulate small business for increased jobs and revenue in Enoch.
3. A rec center for the use of the residents would be ideal, however any rec center comes with annual maintenance costs and so careful study and planning needs to be done.

Please share your thoughts about water usage and rights, and the Water

Conservancy District.

On July 22 the city of Enoch voted to withdraw from the Conservancy District. I whole heartedly support this decision and have attended one ICWCD meeting and plan to attend the next one on October 8th at 6:30 at the Cedar City Library.

What do you think about the new Recreation Center that has been planned for

Enoch?

I am in favor of the Rec center, however I don't want the yearly maintenance to fall on the city and therefore create additional fees the residents have to pay. I have submitted one grant and am working on a dozen others to help obtain funding for this facility.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?

The decisions I help make will not only be the best for Enoch residents today but Enoch residents in the future. Each decision made today will impact the future and we need to be thinking 5 and 10 years down the road. I am actively involved with county committees and well as the schools so that I have a hands on feel for what is needed/wanted in the community.

Enoch: Rick Bonzo, Candidate for 4 Year City Council Position

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Cedar City, the oldest of 5 boys.  I am employed with Albertson's and have served in the Utah National Guard for the past 37 years.  I am currently serving on the Iron County Water Conservancy District and the Iron County Natural Resources Board.  I enjoy golfing, hunting and 4-wheeling and working in our yard.   I am married to Wendy Cowan Bonzo and we have one son, Justin.

How long have you lived in Enoch, and what do you like about it?  

I have lived in Enoch for 33 years and I love the rural atmosphere, the larger lots and the people.

What office are you running for? And why did you choose to be a candidate for this office?

I am running for a 4 year council position.  I enjoy being involved in Enoch City government and feel that I have much to offer the community. 

What do you think are the biggest issues in our community right now?

We need to attract businesses to our area, helping improve our tax base.  Water is always a concern and needs to be addressed.

When you think of Enoch 5 or 10 years from now, what do you want to see?

I would like to see some viable businesses, more trails for recreation, conservative growth keeping the rural atmosphere that we enjoy.

What do you see as your top 2 priorities if you are elected?

Recruiting commercial business and water.

What do you think are the biggest Infrastructure needs in Enoch?  

Our roads need to be continually upgraded as do the water lines.

Please share your thoughts about water usage and rights, and the Water Conservancy District.  

I feel that we should conserve water where we can.  One way this is possible is by encouraging residents to use water-wise landscaping.   I feel that Enoch should continue to participate in the water conservancy district, working with other communities to insure we sufficient water for our needs.  The water conservancy district is set up to aid the communities of Iron County, not to take over their water systems.  The district is a valuable resource to Enoch City.

What do you think about the new Recreation Center that has been planned for Enoch?

I'm not completely up to date on the plans.  However, I feel that recreation areas are vital for our community.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I have 12 years experience as an Enoch City Councilman and 2 years as Mayor of Enoch.  I feel that I have the experience and leadership abilities to best serve the residents of Enoch.

Enoch: Steven M. Clarke, Candidate for 4 Year City Coucil Position

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is STEVEN M. CLARKE I have lived in Enoch for 31 Years.  My wife Sharon and I have raised four children here.  We have 12 grandchildren.  I have several hobbies, amateur radio, old cars, fishing and ATV riding. 

What do you like about living in Enoch? 

I love living in Enoch.  My neighbors are friendly and helpful.  The citizens volunteer for everything.  I enjoy the rural atmosphere and the freedom that comes from larger lots.  

What office are you running for? And why did you choose to be a candidate for this office?

I am running for the four year City Council office.  I am the incumbent.  I feel like it took me along time to understand the responsibilities.  Now I have the experience to do a good job.  I feel that I have represented the people of Enoch the best of my ability and I would like to continue.

What do you think are the biggest issues in our community right now?

Water is an ongoing concern in Enoch.  We require water rights to be transferred for every lot.  We are working on a secondary water system that can use non-culinary and surface water for irrigation.  That way we can conserve our culinary water.    

When you think of Enoch 5 or 10 years from now, what do you want to see?

We need to encourage commercial growth.   We have organized a Community Development Agency to allow the city and county to waive taxes to encourage businesses to locate in Enoch. 
I would like to see a shopping center in Enoch sometime in the future.

What do you see as your top 2 priorities if you are elected?

My priorities would be to balance Enoch's wants with our needs in this economy.  With the challenge to do this without raising taxes.

What do you think are the biggest Infrastructure needs in Enoch?  


Enoch infrastructure needs include expanding the cemetery,  water tanks, and the expansion of the sewer plant.

Please share your thoughts about water usage and rights, and the Water Conservancy District. 


The past few years we have been asking the citizens of Enoch to conserve water, I think many are doing what they can.  I don't like raising the water rates to make it a hardship to use our allotted water.  The Iron County Water Conservancy District has helped Enoch in the past by financing our water study, helping us with our current water line project.  They also helped us acquire some good water rights a fair price.  I think Enoch has received some return on the taxes we paid to the ICWCD. I believe Enoch should keep our own water system and stay independent. 

What do you think about the new Recreation Center that has been planned for Enoch?

The Rec. Center is another question.  I think it will take a lot of money to build.  It will take raise in taxes and donations to build.  I don't support raising taxes for a Rec. Center or maintaining it with taxes.  I don't think we will have a center for many years.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I have served on the Enoch City Planning Commission.
I have served on the Enoch Board of Adjustments.
I have served in various B.S.A. and religious positions.
I am currently serving on the Enoch City Council and would like to continue.

Robert A. Rasmussen, running for mayor-unopposed
I have served as Enoch City Mayor for the past five years and have previously served on the Enoch City Council. I am well acquainted with municipal style budgeting, as that is what I do for the Five County Association of Governments where I am employed. I am interested in helping make the community in which we reside a good place to live and raise families. My wife Brenda and I have raised 5 children in Enoch and have lived here for 32+ years.

The opening for Enoch City Council is an excellent match for my qualifications.  My background includes two decades of public service.  I previously served for twelve years as an Enoch City Councilman and two years as Enoch City Mayor.  For the past 2 1⁄2 years I have been serving on the Iron County Water Conservancy Board, and was recently appointed to serve on the Iron County Natural Resource Board. I have been a member of the Utah National Guard for 37 years, serving in Iraq for approximately 18 months.  I am also a member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club and VFW. It is my desire to work on water issues facing Enoch and work toward some commercial businesses to help increase our sales tax revenues. I have an investment in Enoch and I will work hard to serve Enoch residents and help make our community a great place to live.


Steven M. Clarke, running for a four-year city council seat-incumbent
I have lived in Enoch for thirty years.  I love our community.  The people of Enoch are great volunteers.  They help each other.  Over the years I have served on the Enoch Planning Commission, the Enoch Board of Adjustments, and now on the City Council for the last four years. I have tried to do my best for the citizens of Enoch. I currently have responsibilities with the Shade Tree Committee, the Library Board, and sewer and refuse departments. I support a rural Enoch and support animals where allowed. I support open space and would like us to continue to enjoy the advantages of larger lots.  I think we need commercial development. I

I have been associated with Enoch City government for 5 years as a City Council member since 2006, Board of Adjustments member 2005, Vice-Chairman of Enoch City Community Development Agency, Chairman of Enoch City Health and Wellness Advocacy Group, President and Founder of the Southern Utah Chapter Old Spanish Trail Association, and have assisted with many committees.  My experiences in business combined with my responsibilities in municipal government are valuable assets to Enoch as policies, procedures, and ordinances are created and implemented.  With a strong sense of duty and a complete belief in the values taught me by good family, scout leaders, friends, and God, I believe I am the choice best suited at this time for Enoch City.   




Jennifer Hunter, running for a four-year city council seat 
I have served on the Enoch Recreation Board since it’s inception. I am currently employed at Southern Utah University in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and was this year’s recipient of the Classified Staff Distinguished Service award. I earned my MBA in 2009. I am also involved with several other SUU committees and I am actively involved with recycling and sustainable new energy sources. I was instrumental in the placement of recycle bins at the Enoch City yard and would like to see additional recycling opportunities in Enoch. I have served as a parent advisor to the Enoch City Youth Council. My family and I moved to Enoch in the summer of 2001 and are active in religious and scouting activities and, in any available time, I enjoy gardening and learning about preparedness.


Stephanie Brown, running for a two-year city council seat
I have lived in Enoch since 2006 and recently bought a home here as we are going to raise our family here.  We have three girls, ages 8,6 and 4.  I work as the office manager/paralegal for Jeffery Slack a criminal defense attorney in Cedar. I am running for office because I like to be involved and help form the community where my kids will grow up.  Additionally, I feel that young families are a majority group in Enoch but are not being represented adequately. I have served on the PTA for Enoch Elementary and as a classroom mom where I gained a healthy respect for teachers and all the work they put into our kids.  My legal experience has given me the knowledge of the law and the ability to explain it to people in easy to understand terms. I support green energy, education and investing in the future whether that means providing more businesses for Enoch or providing more activities for families. Gary D. Wilcken, running for a two-year city council seat-incumbent
My name is Gary D.Wilcken and I am seeking your support for re-election to the City council for a two-year seat. I have, for the last two months, filled the seat vacated by Justin Gray’s resignation. I have enjoyed being involved and I have taken the job seriously and desire to continue. I have lived in Enoch all my life and consider this a great place to live and raise a family. I have a great wife and six grown children, the youngest starting at SUU this fall. My vision for the City is to have it remain a great place to live by keeping taxes as low as possible and doing what we can with what we have. That’s how we live at my home and I don’t think the
City (meaning the Government) should be growing while the rest of us are in tight times. I am concerned that the culture we live in increasingly wants to depend on government for everything. I believe that to be a folly and detrimental to our well being. I believe that we can control what happens here at the local level. Not only can we, we must, so when we want something that increases the size of government, whatever it is, we must weigh that against the loss to our pocket book. What we, as citizens, want WE must pay for.  I consider myself a champion of the conservative values and desire to continue the fight.
